Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins work by preventing the release of acetylcholine. Preventing acetylcholine disrupts nerve signals that tell muscles to tighten and move. If you smile, tense your jaw, or make other facial expressions, lines and wrinkles may form and become more pronounced over time. Neurotoxins relax facial muscles to create a smoother and softer look while preventing more lines from developing.

Neurotoxin results won’t appear right away. Approximately five to seven days after your injections, you may notice decreased movement in the facial muscles. Full effect will likely take place 14 days after your appointment and can last two to three months.

Maintenance appointments are needed to prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming. You will begin to notice facial movements as the neurotoxins wear off. You can schedule a follow-up appointment to address areas of concern at this time. The effects of your initial neurotoxin injections will wear off around three months after your first treatment.

Injectable dermal fillers and neurotoxins work differently to correct signs of aging. Fillers are created with hyaluronic acid (HA) to add volume and balance to facial features. Neurotoxins, however, relax facial muscles to prevent movement-caused lines and wrinkles.

After your appointment and for days after, you might notice slight redness and mild swelling around the injection sites. It is also normal to see some light bruising.
